Arrogant Non-Professional
I went to Dr. Khella post-operatively from spinal surgery, as I was still having a significant amount of problems in my legs, myelopathy. After a brief exam, which seemed like a joke, this doctor was fixated on not believing anything which I was saying. He danced around in his tap shoes like he was on stage for the Oscars, making statements and discredits about my experiences. My suffering, and improvement post-op, meant nothing to him. It was a waste of time and co-pay to see him. I felt like walking out on him. What a negative person to represent neurology and Penn.

He’s checked out
I have had a few visits with Khella. A single fiber EMG was performed on me about a year ago and he diagnosed me with ocular myasthenia gravis. Since my one neurologist was away, I decided to have him care for me. Second visit was one on one, didn’t ask me questions, and I had to explain my double vision issues. He suggested to go on IVIg to fix everything. Had the loading phase for 5 days, but my insurance denied me monthly maintenance. Dr Khella said it’s my insurance, he doesn’t understand why it’s not covered after he did a peer to peer review. Seriously? BCBS through my employer of over 10,000 employees won’t cover IVIg. I’m getting new symptoms but he doesn’t seem to care. I have addressed painful spasms and stiffness and he doesn’t care. Never said he wanted to schedule to see me again after last visit in August, never said if my labs were ok. His new secretary is checked out. Have to email multiple times to get scheduled. I’m very disappointed. I’ll never see him agai

A Very Helpful Consultation
Called office that I would be 1/2+ hour late due to traffic. Told to continue and he would adjust to accommodate me. Seen quickly on arrival and still afforded a full hour of time. Dr. Khella listened attentively to my symptoms and the diagnosis of a complex and rare condition. He was extremely knowledgeable and said there were still loose ends in my diagnosis. He ordered further comprehensive tests, some of which were started immediately after the session. Referral to an expert on my condition was made along with the briefing of a multidisciplinary team. All of the staff at PennMed were pleasant and helpful. Dr Khella listened, communicated his knowledge, and was friendly and personable. Summary: 3 hours in horrible traffic and an hour with Dr Khella, perhaps some of the most important time in my life.

Myasthenia gravis
Dr. Khella has given me back my life after my diagnosis. of myasthenia gravis. From not being able to do daily activities I can now function fully and lead a normal life. He is compassionate and very thorough. He cares about the whole patient.

I have a disabling small fiber neuropathy condition in my feet. He was very compassionate during our visit and put me on the proper medication. I’m playing tennis now. He’s one of those doctors who knows what he’s doing. The kind you want.

My last Neuro appointment at penn VS. This provider was night & day. Waited *months* in hopes of further testing, explanation, and treatment. Short visit w/ no direction. Will be seeking second opinion.

Arrogant and not interested in factual symptoms and diagnostics, explaining anything, or helping you. He tried discrediting everything I was telling him, and I had to repeat my questions to him to get a truthful answer. He is more about showmanship than practicing real medicine and caring for the patient. I have a spinal cord injury with neurological problems for years. He was just about useless for any direction. Interesting, my neurosurgeon wants me to continue to see a neurologist, and Dr. Khella said that I would not need to see him again after one visit. Dr. Khella just does not want to be bothered by complicated injuries in patients. Smug theatrics is not part of the medical oath. Do not trust or see this individual if you need real medical help.

After getting an MRI and XRay showing nothing wrong I went into Penn’s neurology department to try to get some kind of answers as to why I have moderate back pain that interferes with my everyday life and this is the Dr. they assigned to me I suppose. I went in and he saw me for about 10 minutes. I described my situation and without running any kind of tests he somehow came to the conclusion that I have tension headaches and he prescribed me 60mg of propranolol. I told him that I do not think I get tension headaches but he completely ignored that. Any input I had he dismissed. Basically I saw him for less than 10 minutes and he threw a random prescription at me. Avoid seeing this doctor he is incompetent.

Dr. Khella performed an exam & recommended an MRI on my 1st visit. MRI revealed trauma to the lumbar spine with a diagnosis of Myelomalacia. I appreciate his decision for an MRI & diagnosis. But there was a lack of effort on his follow up. I requested a call back twice (voice & email) to discuss next steps. His response came after 7 days: "There is nothing to do" "See me in 6 mo's". The condition is painful & can worsen with time. The Dr.'s lack of courtesy post diagnosis is NOT appreciated.

I have received better medical attention from Med express. I went to see this doctor. He never looked at the medical records I spent weeks gathering and then he gives me a bogus diagnosis. I sent him test results ( which he already had) to show that his diagnosis was wrong and after several phone calls he has never returned my calls. This is the 2nd time I have gone to Penn Neurology and was disappointed. So needless to say I am still trying to find a doctor that can help me with my condition.

To return for a neurology feedback session two weeks later and have Dr. Khella not even recognize me as a returning patient let alone have knowledge of my file content was jaw dropping. Then followed a cursory and haphazard review of the test results that I had to remind him that he ordered. Very disappointing to say the least.
