I have seen Dr. Sharon Alger-Mayer before twice... I started when I was age 19 and she was my nutritionist for Anorexia, which is why I need her now, and I’ve seen her for endocrinology. She’s a brilliant woman and I find her very caring. I wouldn’t go to anyone else for her expertise! I trust her implicitly and concentrate on why I’m seeing her, which is usually hard to do when you’re trying to stay focused on YOUR OWN desire to get past their awful trap of Anorexia Nervosa. I never thought about if she cared for me as a friend when this started over 40 years ago - I fought to follow directions and both she and my Psychiatrist saved my life. Now I am greeted as happily as I greet her! She is very good at what she does and that’s what she focuses on: getting her patients better! I definitely have recommended her - all along and I know this will be hard to get past, but she is the one I know I can do my best with!

I have seen Dr.Alger on and off for a few years, I have an eating disorder and have been in the inpatient program at Albany Med. I had always really liked her and thought she was amazing and kind and really cared about her patients. However, a few months ago I went and saw her and she gave the impression that she couldn't have cared less about what was going on. I ended up back inpatient and during my stay, she was not very nice, not caring, and was not personable especially when trying to talk about what I was feeling about what was happening with the refeeding process. I do not know what happened I used to really like her and highly recommend her but after these two episodes, I felt unheard, uncared about, and that I was a burden to her and her staff.
