She has been my Psychiatrist for 5 years
I have been under treatment with Dr. Deeves for 5 years, she is so knowledgeable, that she has been able to medicate my very complex pshichyatric issues, I have never been happier, or in more control of my life and my emotions like I have been for the past 5 years. I have my own business, (5 year long business and thriving) with all the complexities that running a business entails. I am still in my 12 year old marriage, I am the loving and patient mother I always wanted to be, undoubtedly because of Dr. Deeves care. She is a stoic professional doctor who will spend at least 45 minutes with you on every visit. Is she a perfect human being? probably not but neither are the people giving her such nasty reviews, this is someones career we are judging and I think we cannot be so harsh based on perhaps us not liking her. She is a fine psychiatrist. The number listed above is not her number that's exactly why some people haven't been able to reach her. I will have to mention that to her.

Think twice
I was a patient of Dr. Deeves for a short period of time at the end of 2019. My MD referred me to her. She never asked me any questions about my past history, automatically assumed I was bipolar based on limited details from my MD, and immediately put me on lithium. Since I'm not bipolar, the lithium messed me up really bad and it took me longer to get back to work as a result. When I tried to talk to her about not being bipolar and exploring other diagnoses, she immediately disagreed and terminated her care for me. I received a chilling letter stating as much. Ultimately, I had to wean myself off the lithium because she couldn't be bothered with such matters as it didn't go along with her treatment plan. Turns out I have chronic PTSD not bipolar and all my time with her did was waste my money and make me not trust psychiatrists. Thanks again Dr. Deeves.

Great Doctor!
Dr. Deeves is an amazing Psychiatrist. She has never made me feel rushed and has always taken time to listen to me. She seems to genuinely care about her patients. I have nothing but good things to say about her and her staff.

Disappointment to psychiatric care
Dr Deeves is a disappointment to psychiatric care. Her office staff never answers or returns phone calls, therefore she is unreachable and unreliable. She does not take ownership of her shortcomings, instead she places blame on her patients. She cancels numerous visits due to her own illnesses which places patients without care. If an individual is searching for continuous and courteous care, Dr Deeves will not provide and is not recommended.

Last Resort
As lots of people know finding mental healthcare is extremely hard these days. So I was elated when Dr.Deeves office answered me after several hours of searching. I was able to set an appointment and they took my insurance. I was excited to get started getting the help I was desperately searching for. The reason for my one star is because after sharing my goals and what I was hoping to accomplish by seeking this help. I didn’t feel like Dr.Deeves was receptive to that. My script was written and that was all, zero follow up after my appointment. I didn’t think much of it until, I received a letter from her office explaining that she felt like she wasn’t able help me further. The lack of effort is disappointing, since it’s so hard to find help I won’t discourage anyone from seeing her. But at the end of the day if it’s so easy for them to drop a patient with little to no effort, I’d recommend this as a last resort.

12 out of the 13 total 1 star reviews were all when Dr. Deeves was with AMHG. She started her own practice in 2021. Many of the comments went something along the lines with "bad bedside manner" & the like. Keep in mind, all but one were before 2021. My experience has been different. As one of the patients who choose to follow her to her own practice, I can say that there is a difference since her time with AMHG. I have a feeling that much of the negative comments stems (at least in part- to what degree, idk) w/the pressures of being part of a medical group (feeling rushed, not caring about patients) is because the nature of medical groups is to get patients in/out to maximize billing. I think this is why she decided to go on her own, & as a patient of hers before AMHG & after, I can definitely say there is a marked difference now, and because of her, I am no longer a Zombie, but am the most articulate I have been in literally decades, and am finding my original personality & wit.

Thank God for Doctors like Dr. Deeves! – Jun 21, 2022

After 20 years of doctors keeping me on Xanax, I was up to 8 milligrams a day! When I finally left my former practitioner's over 3 years ago Dr. Deeves was there for me and within 9 months I was totally off Xanax. She was very caring and helped me through some of the darkest times of my life. I'm so glad to be Xanax free and I credit Dr. Deeves for helping me get rid of that addiction. I fully recommend Dr. Deeves to anyone who is looking for a caring, compassionate mental health provider.

I have been seeing Dr. Deeves for 3 years. She is amazingly sweet, any is concerned about what I think, how I’m feeling and about my environment. She’s helped me feel so much better about myself and work environment. She’s very knowledgeable with medication and diagnosis. Promptly on time no waiting.

Worst experience ever with Shawna Deeves. I saw her for about two years. She had me spend over $300 in test to see if my condition was real even after she received notice from previous doctors and could review a 15 year medical history. Never felt like I was a patient and comfortable. No "bedside manner". After seeing her for so long, I accidentally let a $40 co-pay check return and I never received a phone call about it. Without notice, I received a letter from Dr. Deeves directly stating she could no longer be my doctor and would have to find a new one asap. When I called Alamo Mental Health group to ask why, she wouldn't talk to me and staff said because of my $40 co pay (she did receive full payment from insurance though). I paid the $40 and Dr. Deeves still refused to see me again. She is concerned with the money more than the well being of her patients.

She is the worst psychiatrist I have ever encountered. She made sure to remind me that I had an upcoming appointment with her. On the day of the appointment she accepted my payment of $150+, brought me into her office and proceeded to tell me that she would no longer see me as a patient and that the rest of my appointment was canceled. She gave me no refills or referrals to help me find another doctor. She was rude, uncouth, and had horrible bed side manners. I would definitely NOT recommend her to anyone who takes their mental health seriously. She was quick to take my money, but of no use when it came time to provide actual care.

I've been seeing Dr. Deeves for the last 2 years. She's helped me feel empowered and like I have my mental health under control. I feel like my mental health is in good care and safe hands with a doctor who actually listens and cares to what's going on in her patients life. She's up to date on what research suggests about different medications and has helped me feel more informed when deciding on medication. I don't feel 'steered' to use one medication over another, like I've felt in the past with other doctors. She's awesome and I would highly recommend Dr. Deeves.
