Dr. Stephanie Cotell, MD

This doctor billed me for no show fee when I called and informed that my condition got worse and had to head to ER instead of seeing her. This doctor does not care about patients health but just using as means to make finances. Extremely disappointed and I will never return to seeing this doctor.

She gave a very cursory skin check. I had to point out places. She wanted to biopsy one place. When I came back, she said she had not done a biopsy. She asked me what I wanted done with the spot. I am no dermatologist. She ended up freezing it. A month later it was bright red and I called to have it looked at. It was then biopsied and found cancerous. This was nine months after the initial visit .She treated me like a child.

She is highly skilled, knowledgeable and considerate. Her examinations are remarkably thorough. She explains what she’s doing and provides helpful advice. She is clearly passionate about her work and provides excellent care. She’s admirably energetic and efficient.

I am surprised by negative reviews of Dr.Cotell--I found her extremely warm, friendly, and very competent. I felt no embarrassment with the exam. I think her young support staff should be better trained in communicating with patients. Said staff made me feel very uncomfortable before she arrived. They rush in, hand you basically a loin cloth (exaggerating here)..and take your picture before you change. That all could be improved. --But Dr. Cotell herself answered my questions, performed a treatment( while keeping my attention from any discomfort) and prescribed a cream,(that is working). She talks and works fast and perhaps that is why it feels rushed to some. Perhaps the practice has a time limit with patients and that does make it feel like a whirlwind.--- but she, as a knowledgeable Doctor and person, was great!! i feel lucky to have found her.

Dr. Cotell was warm, thorough, compassionate, attentive & professional. She made observations that I never noticed.

Felt very rushed and she is not friendly. My exam was really quick - hope she didn't miss anything. Called me the wrong name. Very rude. Won't go back!

Based on her credentials ( Duke, Northwestern) and experience , you would expect to be in good hands. However, her bedside manner is curt and rushed. I am ready to change doctors . Many procedures that she did in the past are now charged as out of pocket cosmetic expenses. I feel like she is more about how many patients she can fit in a day and charge. The offfice staff has a high turnover , constant reminders of your appt and penalties that may be incurred - very negative vibe.

Very rushed, came in 30 minutes late, took one 10-second look at me, called it acne, didn't listen to my history(mostly because she was short on time), wrote a bunch of subscriptions that made it worse and completely missed the real diagnosis

Very impersonal, called me by the wrong name. Very quick to prescribe unnecessary drugs, as well as, unnecessary follow-up appointments. The office is hard to get a hold of. Expect to wait 3+ days to get a nurse to call you back. They do not send out annual visit reminders. They also coded my annual check-up wrong, charging me and my insurance more than what should have been allowed. My husband never received his path results in the mail as he should have.
