AVOID THIS DISASTEROUS SURGEON!
My disastrous outcome from MVD for TN done in 2021 and 2022 ruined my life. It is now 2025 and I still suffer the after effects of this doctor's misdiagnoses and rushed into surgeries. It is impossible to sue this man, but if I could I would. Stay away from him, his staff, and this hospital. If this is the best SC has to offer, then God Help Us All!!

Misdiagnosing CSF Leaks as CCI
Dr. Patel was nice and professional but had a bit of a salesman tone to him. He did not know much about spontaneous spinal CSF leaks when I asked him and diagnosed me with severe CCI based on the fact that I was in a wheelchair (his provided rationale). When I told him about the thunderclap onset of my positional headache, he said that he had never heard of this before and that "stranger things have happened" but that it was definitely CCI. He offered a neck fusion if I wanted to proceed. I went on to get assessed for a leak and found that I have a calcification puncturing my dura which explains what happening (it popped through in the moment and I had a CSF leak start). I came back home and had a patch and my head was instantly weightless as I was shot into high pressure. I am still pursuing leak care as I was injured during that patch, but I am concerned that Dr. Patel is quick to sell people on CCI when a CSF leak is the likely culprit.

Dr Patel provides expert care with a kind and compassionate attitude. He is extremely knowledgeable, but still open to hear his patient’s concerns. Because he is so personable and attentive, he put our teenager at ease when she was facing life changing surgeries. We are confident that she is receiving expert care when being treated by Dr Patel.

Dr. Patel botched me during a MVD (Microvascular Decompression) brain surgery for Geniculate Neuralgia. He left me permanently deaf on the surgery side, he refused steroids for facial paralysis on surgery side, left me constipated, took me off of my medications abruptly after surgery (likely because he is over confident in his ability) leading to withdrawal and a ER visit days after surgery. He was not there to help after suffering many complications post surgery. There’s more, but I’ll spare you. Through support groups, I now personally know 4 other people that have had very unsuccessful MVD surgery at his hands. We have all had to have a re-do MVD brain surgery because of him (YOU DO NOT WANT A RE-DO BRAIN SURGERY!!!). I urge you to NOT go to him for Trigeminal Neuralgia/Geniculate Neuralgia.

Where do I even begin? Dr. Patel MISDIAGNOSED me with Hydrocephalus in 2011. He then made the choice to place a shunt in my brain draining fluid into my abdomen which turned out to be completely unnecessary as the fluid amount around my brain as well as my spinal taps were normal. I was told I needed the shunt to maintain quality of life and prevent brain damage. He performed 3 separate surgeries on me that were never necessary as I DO NOT have Hydrocephalus and never did. Due to Dr. Patel’s oversight, negligence, and incredibly disrespectful & ARROGANT medical interns, the last decade of my life has been a medical nightmare. When I began having seizures, I was told that they were psycho-somatic (making them up) and they would send up psych to my room, when I was having vision problems in my right eye I was told by one of Patel’s interns “that’s not a sign of anything being wrong”, when I expressed that I was having unbearable headaches that made me lay in the Fetal position and ma

Misdiagnosis that forever changed my life. – Aug 25, 2019

Dr, Patel and his staff were good until after I had my surgery. After continuing to explain that I was in severe pain after my decompression surgery of L4- L5. and being dismissed the next visits, I felt as a problem patient to them . Finally they allowed to let me have another MRI. My following consult left me in a room by myself for an hour before Dr. Patel came in. He blamed me due to fluid around my spine as causing the pain and that he had done all that he could, Now I am facing fusion

Dr. Patel is an amazing man and neurosurgeon! I had already spoken with 2 neurosurgeons in different states before speaking with Dr. Patel. He was the only neurosurgeon that told me what type of brain tumor I had, how he was going to resect the tumor and how long the surgery should take. Everything that he said would happen did. His knowledge and experience is second to none! 3 months after surgery I am doing extremely well. I would highly recommend Dr. Patel to anyone needing a neurosurgeon!

Dr Patel is the worst urologist and perhaps the worst doctor I have ever seen. By far the worst bedside manner, with a misdiagnosis to boot. Rude, entitled - don't waste your time or money.

If you asked questions he will give you the answers and take the time to explain them however he doesn't nor do most doctors explain everything out right He has a good sense of humor which is nice when going through something stressful I have had several experiences with him and the entire surgery department and have nothing but respect for each and everyone of them
