Blatant disregard for communication
Dr. Nelson was in charge of my loved one’s care at UCLA Santa Monica hospital. My loved one has dementia, has trouble understanding/communicating and is in a legal conservatorship, so keeping her conservator in the loop is imperative as she cannot consent or advocate for herself. Dr. Nelson was impossible to reach during the duration of my loved one’s treatment. While we called daily requesting updates on her condition/treatments/next steps, Dr. Nelson refused to contact us a single time. The one time we were able to speak with her was when we camped out in our loved one’s room for four hours hoping to run into her. This is shameful when someone is in the situation my loved one is in, unable to consent to treatment / advocate for herself and in need of their conservator to do so. How can a conservator do their job for their ward if the doctor refuses to communicate to them? Even the nurses expressed their dismay at her blatant disregard for communication given the situation.
