Negligent and Unprofessional
My experience with Dr. Long was extremely brief on two occasions. These brief appointments, which included a consultation and a follow-up, both lasted under 3 minutes and left no room for a proper physical examination and symptom evaluation to be done. This negligence caused Dr. Long to hyperfocus on an area of my body where symptoms were not coming from which provoked more imaging studies than needed. When questioning Dr. Long on other areas of my body that could be affected, he seemed absolutely confident, despite not doing a complete physical exam, that it could not be another body part causing the pain I was experiencing. This caused a delay in my diagnosis and completely missed an important issue with my hip. While I understand Dr. Long is a spine surgeon, it is important for him to do a complete physical exam especially to rule out other differential diagnoses when one has been ruled out.

Excellent
Dr. Long has been treating me for a number of back issues. He performed lumbar decompression surgery 4 years ago when I was having severe nerve pain and was struggling to walk. He took his time in walking me through my situation and options. I opted for the surgery and it was a tremendous success, as I’m very active and the procedure allowed me to return to the active lifestyle I was accustomed. I continue to see Dr. Long in NJ even though I moved to Florida. I find him to be honest and trustworthy. I’ve have had orthopedic specialists for my knees and for a shoulder replacement and have no hesitancy in recommending Dr. Long for spinal related concerns.

Accompanied a family member to a follow up appointment. Since Dr Long did not do the initial surgery we asked why we were seeing him and his response was he didn’t know but that he and Dr Rovner are partners and see each other’s patients all the time. I saw he took offense and his demeanor quickly changed. The entire interaction was less than 5 minutes. Which is understandable since he didn’t do the surgery and couldn’t answer any questions about it. It took him longer to find a bandage than it did to spend any quality time with us. When asked a simple question about the incision his response was hopefully it heals itself soon. At the end of it we still had to schedule another follow up appointment with the surgeon that did the surgery. I accompanied the family member because I too need spinal surgery and am deciding where to go. But with his demeanor and the feeling of being rushed like cattle I will be having my surgery done elsewhere. Unfortunately Dr Long left a bad taste in my mouth. The staff is great but they don’t do the surgeries. If you want impersonal doctors this is the place for you. I felt Dr Rovner had the same impersonal demeanor.

Dr. Long’s early diagnosis of my underlying issue was critical in quickly addressing a serious and unexpected problem. I can’t imagine what my outcome would have been without his initial involvement. He has been incredibly supportive and sympathetic from the first visit through two surgeries and the ongoing follow ups. I highly recommend him to anyone experiencing back problems. Also, his lovely team in the Edison office have made my wife and I feel welcome and their number one priority whenever we have an office visit.

My experience with Dr Long was beyond disappointing. His staff was excellent. He, not so much. Way more interested in hearing himself talk, as oppose to listening , answering questions and mostly, lack of interest in how you FEEL.....I kea ll about my condition, which the continued to explain to me...I was there to find out if he could help me with either pain management or to see if there is anything new I could do to help myself. He did neither. Mentioned that I look good for my age more than once and said I'll be fine. I'm dealing with a 15 year old degenerative situation....save your money...he doesn't care about your pain or experience.

Dr. Long and his staff have been angels so to speak with all the worries that go along with surgery. There was not one question or scenario from pros to cons that Dr. Long was not knowledgeable and accurate about. The incredible communication put me immediately at easy. At no point was I ever worried about anything not going as expected. I’d recommend Dr. Long hands down as the first and only choice for surgery. Any question you could possibly as was already answered before you would know to ask it. With that being said, thank you so much for you exemplary professionalism.
