Biography: As early as high school, nurse practitioner Shar Watkins knew she was destined for a career in the medical field. Watkins worked as a labor and delivery RN, helping women through every stage of childbirth. She later became a nurse practitioner to help patients during all stages of life, not just when they were in the hospital. Watkins believes a large part of that excellent care is educating her patients and wants to empower young girls and women to be active participants in their health care, and to protect and take care of their bodies. Watkins understands the concerns facing busy mothers, as a mother of four herself. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family reading James Patterson books and loves spoken word poetry.

Biography: Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted to fix "boo-boos" and take care of those around me. That instinct was coupled with seeing how her nursing career changed my mother's life and provided opportunity for my family and all of it led me to the medical field. When it came time for me to choose a specific career path, I leaned into women's health; I found that I was drawn to not only the care that women receive, but the care that they deserve. \n Through my work, I have become even more passionate about women's health, especially maternal healthcare; medical access and equity amongst minorities; quality care for those wanting to start families. I'm very passionate about taking care of moms and caring for postpartum depression and mental health. I am honored to play a significant role in women's lives and build trusting relationships with them. I want them to know they are not going through life's stages alone. I get to know each of my patients so I can provide the best care not just for their health condition but also for their lifestyle. \n My husband and our daughter keep me busy outside of work and brighten each of my days. I am proud of my Trinidadian roots and culture, and look for chances to share that with friends. When I have free time, I love traveling, reading or eating great food.

Biography: Patrice Cunningham, WHNP is an Obstetrics /amp Gynecology Specialist who practices in Charlotte, NC. Patrice Cunningham, WHNP is affiliated with Novant Charlotte NC.

Biography: I've been interested in medicine since childhood, as I observed my rheumatologist mother making an impact on her patients' lives. I, too, sought to balance my passions for people and science, and when I discovered obstetrics and gynecology, I knew I'd found my place in medicine. \n I'm drawn to the wide array of conditions that ob-gyns manage, the ability to provide both preventive and specialty care, and the use of both medical and surgical treatments to promote health. I seek to uphold women's autonomy and to promote their well-being, so they may pursue the best lives for themselves and their families. \n My approach to healthcare centers around listening to women and collaborating with them as a team to create a treatment plan. I remind myself that while I may have training in an individual's condition, only she is the expert in living in her body. \n I grew up in Charlotte and went to grade school through high school here, and I love our ever-evolving city. My husband and I have a son, and we adopted a dog and have raised two cats that were born in our backyard! We love spending time outdoors and traveling together as a family when we're able.

Biography: Before I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, I had the opportunity to volunteer in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). I saw firsthand the amazing sacrifices women often make to build a family. I knew that I wanted to help women like those I saw, and to make a positive impact on their lives. In medical school, I quickly decided on the OB-GYN specialty; I love the continuity of care it allows me to provide and the ability to support women through all of life's stages. \n While I know I can never fully understand what a patient is going through, I try to put myself in their shoes and start each visit from a place of empathy. Making sure that patients feel heard and supported is one of the most important things I do. Fostering collaborative relationships with patients allows me to understand their unique needs and work with them to develop individual care plans to address issues and improve their overall health. \n I grew up in Maryland but fell in love with Charlotte while completing my residency here. I knew I wanted to stay and was fortunate to find a position that allows me to care for this community I love so much. When I am not working, I enjoy trying new restaurants and taking my dog, Wallace, on walks and hikes to explore the city.
