Biography: For over a quarter of a century, I have loved practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Charlotte, and I treasure the meaningful relationships I've formed with my patients during that time. Every person has a story to tell, and I like to get to know the human being in front of me before we delve into the presenting medical problem that brought her to my office. \n Every individual's medical situation is unique, and there is no cookie-cutter solution that can be applied universally. My job is to work with patients to figure out the best solution for them and then carry it out safely. \n I've have been performing robotic surgical procedures since 2009 and have a keen interest in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and pelvic floor reconstruction. I established the Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology at what was then called Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital in 2012 and was the first gynecologic surgeon in North Carolina to be awarded Master Surgeon by the Surgical Review Corporation, a global nonprofit patient safety organization. \n I've taught gynecologic surgeons and directed continuing medical education courses throughout the United States and Canada. In addition, I received a "Best Doctor" award from the North Carolina Business Journal, a "Top Doctor" award from both Charlotte Magazine and the Charlotte Business Journal on multiple occasions. \n After graduating from Dartmouth College, I earned a master's degree from Georgetown University before pursuing my medical education at the George Washington University School of Medicine. I served as The Academic Chief Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology during my final year at the George Washington University Medical Center. \n I've been happily married for three decades, and my wife and I have three grown children. When not wearing scrubs, you can find me enjoying time outdoors, alpine climbing, exercising or riding on my John Deere tractor.

Biography: I specialize in surgical and medical management of cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and other gynecologic cancers. I also serve as the lead physician for the Novant Health Cancer Institute in Charlotte. \n Given the complexity of diagnosing and treating gynecologic cancer, and the rapid pace of innovation in the field, I have dedicated much of my career to clinical research and teaching. \n My research has revolved largely around testing the efficacy of using combinations of radiation, chemotherapy and surgery to slow, reverse or stop tumor growth in women with cancer. In 2018, this led to my being appointed to an advisory committee on gynecologic oncology at ClinicalPath, a data-based service I and many other oncologists use to guide clinical decision-making. \n As important as these endeavors are, I've found that the relationships built caring for patients are what inspire us to be better doctors and nurses. More importantly, they inspire us to be better human beings. \n A native of Charlotte, I got my start in medicine thanks to a scholarship from the U.S. Navy. With the scholarship, I attended medical school at Wake Forest University. I completed my residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Carolinas Medical Center and then served as medical director of the OB-GYN department at the Naval Hospital Charleston from 2003 to 2005. \n After completing a fellowship in gynecologic oncology in 2008, my wife, Cherie, and I jumped at the chance to come to Charlotte, where I joined Novant Health's gynecologic oncology team. Cherie grew up in Belmont, North Carolina, and we were excited about raising our three daughters in the community where we have such deep roots. Being able to give back to my hometown as a trustee of the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation and as a medical adviser to Lydia's Legacy, which raises funds for gynecologic cancer research, has also been extremely fulfilling. \n In my free time, I enjoy fly-fishing and golf.

Biography: I am a surgeon and breast cancer survivor who specializes in treating gynecologic cancer. Taking care of women and being a part of their complete cancer journey are areas of my work that I love. I chose medicine as a career because I believe it is the best way to integrate my interest in science, solving problems and helping people and my community. I specialize in gynecologic oncology because it provides a unique opportunity to combine my surgical skills with cancer care, where there is a strong and growing emphasis on caring for the whole patient. \n As lead physician and head of the operating room committee at my clinic, I play a leading role in evaluating surgical techniques to determine which ones work. My status as a fellow of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists means you can have confidence that I rely on the latest medical guidelines, treatments and techniques in women's healthcare. \n Though I'm a surgeon, I support any therapy that improves outcomes for my patients. At Novant Health, I have spearheaded a clinical trial to help determine whether a new drug therapy improves outcomes for patients with late-stage endometrial cancer. This disease is rarely cured by radiation therapy or surgery alone. \n As a breast cancer survivor, I empathize with the emotions cancer patients experience as they move from diagnosis and treatment to remission, recovery, sometimes relapse, and survival. My approach to care focuses as much on guarding your quality of life in the here and now as on finding a cure for your illness. \n When not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and daughter and our two dogs. My hobbies include long-distance running, music and sports. My husband and I both attended Auburn University and love following their sports teams.

Biography: Growing up I knew I wanted to be part of a profession that gave me a strong sense of purpose and allowed me an opportunity to have a positive and meaningful impact on the lives of others. One of the best places to do that is in the fight against cancer; and one of the best ways to help cancer patients is to involve them in the decisions surrounding their care. \n I take time to help my patients understand their options for getting a diagnosis and treatment for their illness. While being diagnosed with cancer is never easy, my experience has been that patients find this approach empowering and helpful. My 13 years of medical training prepared me well for this educational aspect of my job. \n A great physician is one who continues learning. I accomplish this as a member of the National Gynecological Association and through clinical research. My interest in research started during my fellowship training, when I was awarded grants for ovarian cancer research. Since then, I have logged considerable hours in the lab, researching ovarian cancer vaccines and immunotherapy. I also continue to publish clinical research on ovarian and uterine cancer treatments and outcomes. \n A native of Britain, I moved to Chapel Hill at an early age. I now live in Charlotte with my wife and dog "Moose." My wife and I love playing soccer, spending time with family and friends and working on our house. We also enjoy hiking, particularly when we can do that in Scotland.

Biography: I believe medical care should be more than one single encounter: It should be an ongoing relationship between a patient and a provider. That's why the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology is perfect for me, as it allows me to get to know my patients as individuals and to see them through so many stages of life. It also offers a unique combination of surgery and medicine, and I find the complexity of women's health intriguing. \n Each of my patients is unique, and their health needs are as well. I strive to offer each patient holistic, individualized attention. That often starts with assessing how lifestyle factors, dietary habits, sleep and stress work together to impact their overall health and hormone levels. I want to not only identify a patient's health concerns, but work with them to address issues and monitor progress with regular gynecologic screenings. \n Growing up in Atlanta was when I first discovered I wanted to be a physician. That eventually led me to the University of Virginia, where I started my medical education and met my wonderful husband, Dillon. We have three amazing children: Carter, Spencer and Emma. When I am not spending time with family and friends, I enjoy traveling, golf and tennis.

Biography: I knew I wanted to go into healthcare as a young child. I got involved in medicine in high school. In college, I worked as a nursing assistant to gain more experience in the healthcare field. It was in medical school that I developed a passion for obstetrics and gynecology (ob-gyn) and, beyond that, chose to specialize in gynecological cancer. \n Every day that I care for patients, I continue to learn. I am a member of various gynecologic associations and serve on the community board for Lydia's Legacy, an organization that supports education, awareness and research funding for gynecologic cancers. \n I look at and treat each patient as if she were a member of my family. That is the reason I strive to introduce a level of humanism and warmth to each visit and help put my patients' minds at ease. But above all else, I put honesty first. In my field, I do not always have good news to discuss with my patients. Honesty and compassion can help a patient and her family formulate realistic expectations, which is extremely important during the course of care. \n My husband and I live in Charlotte with our two girls and dogs, Paco and Maui. We absolutely love being outdoors, enjoy spending time by the pool, spending time in the mountains, and taking trips to the beautiful Carolina beaches with our family.
