Biography: Dr. Joseph Montano is Professor of Audiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. He received his MA degree from New York University, his Ed.D. in Audiology from Teacher's College Columbia University, and is certified in Audiology (CCC-A) through the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). He serves on the New York State Licensure Board and is a member of the ASHA Legislative Council.Prior to coming to Weill Cornell, Dr. Montano was an Associate Professor at Long Island University/C.W. Post, and for 17 years was Director of the Department of Communication Disorders at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. Dr. Montano's clinical expertise is audiologic rehabilitation with particular interest in adjustment to adult onset hearing loss, hearing assistive technology systems and hearing aids. He is the current coordinator of the ASHA Special Interest Division on Aural Rehabilitation.Dr. Montano holds memberships in: ASHA, the American Academy of Audiology, Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology, American Society on Aging and the New York State Speech language and Hearing Association. Biography: Dr. Michelle Kraskin, Director of Audiology at Weill Cornell Medicine received her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of Stonybrook and her Masters of Science in Communications Science from Hunter College, City University of New York. Dr. Kraskin is licensed in Audiology through the New York State Department of Education and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Biography: Dr. Salvatore Caruana is the Director of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center. He is a widely respected head and neck surgeon in the forefront of the surgical treatment of tumors of the mouth pharynx, larynx and sinuses, parathyroid surgery, thyroid gland, and salivary glands. He is a pioneer in laser microsurgery for pharyngeal and laryngeal cancers. Dr. Caruana is an Associate Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Caruana graduated cum laude from the University of Buffalo and completed his Doctor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His general surgery training at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center was followed by a residency in Otolaryngology at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Biography: Michael J. Pitman MD is Chief of the Division of Laryngology at the Columbia University Medical Center and the Director of The Center For Voice And Swallowing. Dr. Pitman is an internationally recognized expert in voice restoration, conservation and care of the professional voice as well as in the care of swallowing and airway disorders. Dr. Pitman is also a NIH funded clinician scientist who has performed and published extensive research. Dr. Pitman has received numerous grants and patents for pioneering research in the field of Laryngology. Dr. Pitman has been voted by his peers as one of the "Best Doctors in America", as well as to New York Magazine "Top Doctors" and New York Times "SuperDocs". He has served as President of the New York Laryngological Society and Secretary of the American Broncho-Esophagological Society and he lectures extensively both nationally and internationally. Biography: Dr. Anas Rameau is an attending laryngologist at the Institute, and an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is a fellowship-trained otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon, with advanced expertise in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders, encompassing esophageal stenosis, gastro-esophageal reflux, dysmotility, sequelae of head and neck and thoracic radiation, Zenker's diverticulum and age-related dysphagia. She also has specialized training in the management of chronic cough, treatment of benign diseases and malignant tumors of the larynx, voice restoration, and airway rehabilitation surgery. Prior to joining the Institute, Dr. Rameau was an otolaryngology resident at Stanford University and then a fellow at UC Davis Medical School, under the mentorship of Peter Belafsky, MD MPH PhD.Dr. Rameau's clinical goals is to provide expert and compassionate care for patients with dysphagia both in the clinic and in the operating room, and to restore patients' swallowing function via advanced diagnostics technology, as well as refined endoscopic and surgical treatments. Her research focus is on outcomes studies of interventions for swallowing disorders, as well as preventative and restorative measures to decrease aspiration risk in patients with dementia.
