bad diagnosis
With all the misdiagnoses, oversights, and plain incompetence of the staff, I’m truly amazed that Dr Massarotti is still allowed to practice medicine. I’ve begged my wife to find a new Dr for years, yet she still returns. The Dr ordered multiple labs. Two weeks later, my wife had to call to ask for results. The staff ensured her they were all normal. She has been miserable and half alive since then. She has been in multiple times since then. The Dr recommended antidepressants. The Dr called after her last appointment (we have been 3x since feeling so rotten). Indicated she reviewed the labs and asked if we were taking the medication prescribed. Uhh... 3 appointments and its like your talking to a empty box. Time to find a real Dr who actually wants to be a Dr.

A thorn among roses.
As the caretaker for a family member with multiple systemic and chronic conditions (including a primary rheumatic disease), I have met dozens of incredible Brigham doctors. Dr. Massarotti was the exception to the rule. She seemed immediately skeptical and invalidating of the young adult whom I accompanied to the appointment. She was quick to chalk her problems up to a somatic condition and to dismiss multiple laboratory anomalies, years of documented signs and symptoms, significant family history and multiple rheumatology referrals from doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital. It was nothing short of stunning. Seems like she is one of those docs who bristles at patients who’ve attempted to educate themselves about their results and possible conditions. The patient I’m referring to went to a top hospital in the metropolitan area she moved to. It took some additional time and testing, but she was eventually diagnosed with one of the more rare diseases.

Listen to bad reviews, they are right.
Felt rushed, dismissed and was told I dont have diagnosis that I am currently being treated for 5 years .She dismissed all records and never even reviewed them before the appointment. Interrupted a lot and tried to steer diagnosis into a somatic event. Very disappointed, expected more knowledge from her experience.

Highly recommend Dr. Massarotti
Dr Massarotti has been my rheumatologist for quite a few years now, for the management of systemic Lupus. As a mother of a young son, my goal is to live a long and healthy life and be here for my son. She has always taken the time to hear my concerns, do thorough bloodwork, and come up with a plan that makes sense for both my short term and long term health. She helps me manage my Lupus with exercise, diet and supplements and reserves the medication for only when needed, as many of the medications have side effects that can be challenging. I have felt that Dr. Massarotti's goal is to keep her patients healthy for as long as possible. She has always been very kind, considerate and listened to me completely. I'm surprised that other reviews are not as positive, as that's never been my own experience. I feel very safe in her care and thankful to have one of the best rheumatologists in Boston as my doctor.

Waste of time and money
This doctor is incompetent. I have a rare condition that she clearly was not familiar with, but did not bother to learn about before offering advice that 1.) had nothing to do with the purpose of my visit (rheumatology evaluation), and 2.) were contraindicated for my condition. If I wasn’t well educated about my own disease and had followed her advice, I would have been harmed. Thank goodness I knew not to do as she advised. Her notes said that I showed no sign of a separate condition that I have had consistently for ten years and that has been documented recently by other doctors. Why did she get this wrong? Who knows, except that she never actually physically examined me, as would have been necessary for her to reach any proper conclusion on that issue She refused to listen to my symptoms, cut me off when talking, and her notes were full of errors regarding my social history, and a few significant errors in the clinical notes. She really borders on being a dangerous doctor.

Complete waste of six month
Absolutely useless. I waited almost six months to see her since I very obviously have arthritis (ER diagnosed me with polyarthritis, meaning I have more than one kind). Since I'm seronegative for rheumatoid arthritis, she said I don't have it. She must be completely unaware that 30% of patients who have RA can be seronegative. Even my psychiatrist knows this! She told me wife (who has been covered with psoriasis for 30 years), that there is no mention of psoriasis in her file and she does not have it. Complete waste of time and money.

extermely condescending
No other way to describe seeing this doctor than to say that both her assistant and myself seemed very uncomfortable with her condescension in speaking to my mother (patient). While she carried herself in high esteem, never did it occur to me just how condescending and rude a doctor could be to their patient. Please, if you don't want to leave an appointment feeling worse than walking in, consider another doctor at this very lovely facility. The staff is pleasant, and the facility clean, but Dr Massarotti is NOT.

I was referred to Dr M after being diagnosed with Systemic Scleroderma. I was 39, a wife, a mother of 5 and scared to death. I cannot say enough good things about this doctor. She is patient, listens intently to my concerns, never rushes me and provides the BEST medical care I could ever ask for. When Dr M changed hospitals I followed her, like many of her other patients. She’s been my rheumatologist for over 20 years. I am blessed.

Does not take patients symptoms seriously
Horrible. I found her to be condescending and unresponsive. I have been dealing with chronic pain for years and waited 6 months for the appointment. I am an MD myself, and actually trained at MGH. She introduced herself as "DR. ", but called me by my first name, and later addressed me in her follow up letter as "Ms", not "Dr". I know that is a silly thing, but it represents her general attitude. She ordered routine tests that had previously been ordered by others and told me to keep taking the NSAID that I was taking, do some PT and return in three months. THATS what I have been doing for years!!!

very rushed
Saw Dr Massorotti for continued body wide symptoms from pain ,rashes, cold extremities, constant headaches. Continually cut me off when trying to speak. Had a diagnosis of arthritis within the first minute or two the appointment. Newsflash arthritis does not show up in a weeks time after never having pain before. Of course if she would have actually listened instead of continually interrupted this would have been easy to rule out. Then wanted me to have a xray for a hip problem I had for 30 years that never caused pain and wanted me to get injections somewhere I didnt have pain. Yes a injection in a part of my body that was not causing pain. My primary care doctor actually had to get involved after the appointment because her notes said "Symptoms sound like they might be disease" apparently she never proofreads her verbal dictation as it looked like it was written by a third grader. Missing words. Double negatives no negatives when there should have been. STAY AWAY!!

would not listen to patients symptoms
I saw Dr Massorotti for widespread joint and muscle pain. My first appointment I had a typed out letter stating my symptoms. I tried to hand her the piece of paper twice she refused and finally just set it aside and started asking questions. As she asked questions she continually cut me off when I tried to answer. Finally she just said I think you need to try Celebrex. Never listening to my symptoms. Well I tried it caused nothing but intestinal pain and had to stop. The second appointment she evaluated my hips. The range of motion in my pelvis is non existent. She precedes to evaluate my RIGHT hip. She could not evaluate the left side of my body because of how the room was set up and her wheel chair. She orders a xray which shows arthritis in my LEFT hip. The hip she never looked at. Suggests a cortisone injection in the LEFT hip. I ask why the right hip has the same pain but is perfect on the xrays. CUTS ME OFF AGAIN. And states its all she can do. I would avoid her at all costs refu

Avoid at all costs. She would not listen to me when I tried to speak constantly interrupted and left me with no treatment plan or anything. Ordered xrays that I had done 2 months prior. They were identical xrays Id been having problems for 4 years like 2 months was going to show a difference. Another bill still no help, but hey she gets paid.

very dissapointed – Dec 14, 2021
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Massarotti?
Saw several times. First visit when I tried to explain my ongoing pain. She did not let me finish and promptly said you need "Celebrex". Well I have been allergic to NSAIDS my whole life. She referred me to an allergist who I finally saw. Had reactions to "Celebrex" so that didnt work. I also had a typed of description of my health woes she would not read didnt even want to take the paper from my hand. The second appointment I showed her how poor my range of movement was in my pelvis/hips/lower back. She evaluated my right side of my body to check range of motion. Agreed it was pretty bad. Had an xray showed pretty severe arthritis on my left side. She then said I need a injection in my leff hip. But I have the same pains in my right hip!! Didnt want to hear anything about that. She found the problem!! Not I hurt my hip when I was 18, 30 years ago it never bothered me one day until now. Regret seeing her she did not give a complete exam and didnt listen to the patient at all.

Dr. Massarotti was the best doctor I have ever seen. I have been dealing with chronic RA for the past 4 years, since i was 17, and I have never had a doctor like her before. She made me feel so comfortable and actually listened to what I had to say. She also asked about my mom and what her opinions about me being sick were. She was all about me, the patient, and my experience. She was literally amazing.
