Dr. Joseph Kretschmar, MD

The office was great I saw the nurse practioner, she put wrong info on my symptoms in my chart. I went in to the med center for an upper scope. Dr .Kretschmar came in with very little info about my history or my name, he didnt review my chart beforehand and really shouldn't have accepted me as a patient. I was not impressed . I also was not impressed when he wanted to pray over me , sorry we are not all in East Tennessee religious. After my scope which was normal he did not suggest 2 other procedures that should be done for my symtoms. I will find another in knoxville as I believe this doctor needs to retire.

For most procedures, he was very good, but he had a very bad day on the last visit and a completely wrong diagnosis was the result. He was pushing the SDA teachings above medical science and I had a lot of pain as a result and had to see someone else to listen and run tests. Chart said everything sounded normal but he never came near me or listened in his stethoscope at all. I was told I would get an explanation from the office manager, but his office never did give one or contact me with how the mistakes were made in his report. My GP said it could be grounds for medicare fraud case. As a Christian, I don't want to drag someone to court. I won't go back and am happy with my new gastroenterologist.

I travel over an hour just to be seen here. I live 15 mins away from a large university medical hospital, but found them impersonal, and one hand not knowing what the other was doing. After much frustration, I found Dr.Kretschmars office and couldn't be more pleased. Everyone from the office staff is pleasant, most important even when the NP wanted to reassure me on a call for my lab work, she knew I was uncertain, so she went to Dr.Kretschmar to ask if it needed attention. They are professional

Dr Kretschmar is the most caring, kind, and knowledgeable GI Dr I have ever been to see. He takes his time explaining every step of the procedure he is doing and answers all of your questions. He also prays with you before the procedure. I have, and will continue to recommend him to anyone who asks me for a GI Dr recommendation.

Dr. Kretschmar, his nurse practitioner, and his staff are all very wonderful and caring. I transferred here from another GI last year and have been very pleased with my care so far.

His front desk office staff are wonderful and friendly! Dr. Kretschmar is good at the procedures but unfortunately I needed more care and he just would not or could not do that for me. As far as the female Doctor in the office she is very confusing and I found her telling me the wrong information a couple of times. Most of his staff made me feel like I was bothering them. It was and still is very upsetting to me. I had to go elsewhere.

Dr. Kretschmar was very thorough and patient in explaining a diagnosis that my daughter had. When symptoms recurred, he continued testing to find a reason. We were very pleased with his manner and especially that he invited us to pray at every visit. When he did my screening colonoscopy, I did not want the expense of anesthesia because my insurance won't pay. He offered a sedation instead. If you can call a colonoscopy perfect, this one was.

He is caring, skilled and offers to pray with you before the procedure.

You only get to talk to his nurse and she can be very confusing and not terribly concerned if you do not understand his recommendations.
