Please do not trust this man with health decisions
He diagnosed me with chiari malformation. He then set up a date for brain surgery. After 3 months of visiting him in the office them weighing me each time. One day ahead of the surgery the nurse from the hospital calls setting up everything for the next day, ask how much I weigh. I tell her she says I'll have to call you back, 30 minutes passes she calls back the surgery is canceled because of my weight. Dr Corsten knew my weight he would not see me for a visit it took months to get in to see him! It could not tell me how much weight I needed to lose to have the surgery! And never saw me again! That's been over 10 years ago I never had the surgery and I'm doing great! Do not trust this man. Get a second opinion. He's too quick to have surgery! He does not care about his patients in a personal way at all!

Chiari Malformation
My 1st appointment with Dr. C was in April '23 after being diagnosed with CM. He answered all my questions and provided me with information to make an informed decision regarding my medical treatment options. I had surgery to alleviate my many issues and it went pretty well. Unfortunately I had to have a 2nd surgery and that also went well. I would certainly recommend him to others based on my experience. I've had many office visits, procedures and messages sent via the portal and I can't think of one bad thing to say about Dr. C or any staff that I've interacted with at NeuroMedical Center. I was surprised to see that he only had a 3.2 rating because I would certainly give him a 5 star rating.

My 96 year old father fell and hit his head. Dr. Corsten asked me on two different days if I wanted my father to have surgery on his head. A surgery that would involve drilling holes on both sides of his head. At first, I felt like he was questioning my judgment because I said, “no”, he’s 96 years old. Why would he recommend drilling holes on my 96 year old father’s head? Maybe because my father has good insurance? Then he recommended a procedure, so I asked him to write it out because my niece who’s a surgeon wanted to research the procedure. Flippantly, Dr. Corsten said she won’t know the procedure. I asked again because my niece and other family members were trying to decide if this would benefit my father. For being so cocky, he should know how to spell the procedure. I would definitely get a second opinion and don’t feel pressured from this man.

Dr. Corsten lacks the specialized skills and social aptitude to address complicated brain injury cases and responsibly communicate to family members. Even if a patient is confined by proximity an insurance to Baton Rouge, thorough research of their neurosurgeon is strongly advised before placing them in the hands of a surgeon like Luke Corsten.
