Excellent Experience
My entire experience surrounding my shoulder replacement was excellent. Dr. Bender and all on his team were very compassionate, caring and explained every step in the process very thoroughly. I felt very much at ease on surgery day, as I believed that I was in the hands of the BEST! Following the PT, I now have as much mobility in that shoulder as I did when I was in my 40's....I am 72. I would highly recommend Dr. Bender.

I'm 75 and have arthritis in many joints. Two joints that changed my life most are both shoulders. Paddling my canoe down Hoosier Rivers 100 miles or more per year has been a passion for many years. In the spring of 2019 I had completed a run of 2,000 miles in 18 years. But, in 2019 my left shoulder would not manipulate my paddle properly due to arthritis. I saw Dr. Bender and Dr. Messimer and I tried a list of physical therapy, diet supplements and rest that they prescribed through 2019 into the spring of 2020. Dr. Bender did a complete replacement of my left shoulder in late September 2020. The results of physical therapy since surgery have been better than expected and I hope to resume paddling my canoe this March.

Dr. Michael Bender repaired 3 torn muscles in right shoulder Sept. 23, 2020. I cannot say enough positive remarks about how I was treated as a patient and his work as a shoulder surgeon. It has been 4 months since my surgery and I have almost all of my range of motion back. I am working with weights to regain my strength. The 2 things that impressed me the most about Dr. Bender was before he took me into surgery, he asked for permission to pray for me and the second thing was Dr. Bender called himself to check on me and to answer any question I might have. I highly recommend Dr. Bender if you are having shoulder problems.

Dr. Bender is a fantastic physician. He combines excellent diagnostic skills with an affable personality that immediately inspires confidence and put me at ease at my first visit. Although I am a physician, Dr. Bender didn't presume anything and took all the time necessary to make sure I understood my diagnosis. He also treated my wife (who is non-medically trained, unless you consider band-aids and hugs) with enormous respect. She appreciated how he explained my problem to her in a way she understood so patiently. Having dealt with surgeons for more than 30 years, Dr. Bender is an exceptional find for a fellowship-trained upper extremity orthopedist. If you want to see, a "doctor's" recommended physician look no further. He is an outstanding specialist and human being who treats you like a family member.

I saw Dr. Bender for a serious elbow injury that included both broken bones and torn tendons. The injury is referred to as a “terrible triad” due to the fact that I chipped all three bones in my elbow. The surgery went smoothly. Post-op care was vigilant and consistent. I felt like I was in good hands from my first appointment to my last. I would recommend Dr. Bender to anyone.

Dr. Bender recently repaired my torn bicep tendon. He made sure I understood my options and once I made my decision he clearly described the surgically procedure as well as the post-surgery rehabilatation process. Dr. Bender was also promptly returned my calls both before and after surgery to answer questions I had. I highly recommend Dr. Michael J Bender.

I am almost 70 years old and I pulled my left shoulder too far by overextending it and lifting a couch. I was in excrutiating pain and thought I had torn my rotator cuff again. An MRI showed bone edema. Treatment consisted of anti-inflammatories and physical therapy. I was skeptical but followed the treatment. I was better in two weeks and able to go on a fall vacation. My shoulder gives me no pain now. Thank you, Dr. Bender Kathy Z.

I saw Dr. Bender and he diagnosed a partially torn bicep. He saw me right away, was very professional and I was impressed how well and quickly diagnosed the problem. He laid out a conservative treatment plan which worked fantastically and his follow up was the greatest. Both Dr. Bender and his staff are very patient focused. If I ever have a need again he is my go to doctor.
