I saw her for an abnormally fast heart rate and although she did a through investigation and seemed overall to be a caring and skilled provider, she wasn't able to ever tell me why my heart rate was so usually high as evinced by ordered EKG and holter monitors. My complaints were dizziness, cold hands and unexplained tachycardia especially in a standing position. It wasn't until years later that I was finally diagnosed with POTS ( postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) by another cardiologist which is a form of dysautonomia. Although this syndrome has been gaining in awareness in recent years, I am still shocked that her list of issues that she treats does not include POTS. I would urge her to become literate in dysautonomia that affect the heart, like POTS, so that when patients like me in the future present with debilitating tachycardias (where nothing can be found structurally wrong) that we are not sent out on our way with a prescription for a beta blocker and a shoulder shrug.
