My update
It’s hard to understand the negative reviews of Dr Prachi Karnik. She has been my Primary Care doc more than 5 years. I’ve met few MDs with such empathy and willingness to solve my health issues (I’m 83 yrs).

Feeling discounted
I read a lot of amazing reviews about Dr. Karnik, so I was so surprised by my initial visit with her. I kept thinking our interactions would improve (my one phone call with her went well but her responses to my FollowMyHealth messages were curt, vague, and unhelpful). I’ve never felt so ashamed of my health- as if I was making up issues because she didn’t take the time to review my chart from my previous out of network doctors. It has also been challenging to get referrals to specialists. I’m sure she is very knowledgeable but I need to change my PCP because I don’t feel comfortable and heard by her.

I was scheduled to see Karnik due to my current Primary Care not having an available appointment. She seemed to be bothered that I had come in. She knew nothing about my history before telling me that I was on too many medications. She was just plain rude in telling me that a medication change I desired would interact with another medication. Some tact would have been nice along with at least a particle of good bedside manner. I refuse to ever see this person again. I'm 66 with chronic pain and I really don't appreciate her mistreatment. Maybe that is normal in India but certainly not with me.

Not recommended at all
Poor. She expects patients to adapt to her agenda. But that agenda is often iffy. I think she jumps to conclusions without adequately articulating her reasoning or being open to the idea that the "obvious" diagnosis might not always be the true diagnosis. There's a saying that when you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras. I get that. But Dr. Karnik is the sort that discounts the lion's roar and elephant's footsteps. She treats the issues that she wants to treat, not necessarily the issues that triggered the patient visit. She seems oblivious to the consequences that delay in treatment might have on her patients. She communicates poorly and does not respond appropriately to patient requests for additional information or to discuss a treatment plan. In short, I would not trust Dr. Karnik to look out for the patient's best interest.

I don't see my primary to be lectured and that's how I feel every time I have an apointment. I inherited Dr. Karnik when my two previous primaries retired. She made statements regarding medications that she didn't want to prescribe because she wasn't aware they were approved for my condition; that was the first problem. She doesn't listen to what you're saying, yet comes back with comments that are very offensive.

Karnik is literally amazing. She has been my primary care doctor since I turned 18 (8 years ago) She genuinely cares but is also very no nonsense and will tell you like it is. Which I appreciate. She is kind and caring and very helpful and informative. I would not trade her for the world. She has helped me a lot in figuring out health and monitor conditions that are in my family that could potentially develop in me. I love the fact that she always tries to guide me to handle things like my anxiety on my own without medication. But still gives me the option for medication if needed. I’ve had many small issues where she could have just written me a prescription and sent me on my way not caring about why it’s happening, just like many doctors do. But she really does try to get down to my core issues and helps me solve the root of my problem. Like I said earlier. I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
