I'm a 54 year old male had a C6-C7 total disk arthroplasty about 7 months ago. The implant device is an Orthofix M6-C. When I woke from surgery I never experienced any local pain other than a sore throat which persisted for about one week. Once the sore throat was gone, swallowing was mildly uncomfortable for many weeks but this eventually passed. I would characterize the surgery as a great success. I do not experience any pain in my neck, the headaches are much less frequent, and I have not experienced paresthesia since about one month after the surgery. Overall I feel that there has been a 90% improvement in my symptoms. I occasionally experience pain/stiffness into the fingers of my right hand but it comes for a few days and goes for days or weeks at a time and seems to respond very well to physical therapy exercises, stretches and massage. Thank you, Dr. McLain. When I arrived at my first appointment I had no intention of having surgery but am very glad that I followed your advice.

Discectomy Surgery
Dr. McLain was my surgeon of choice to repair my herniated disc. At every appointment, he was very thorough and provided explanations that were easy to understand. He has a wonderful bedside manner and isn’t quick to suggest surgical procedures unless absolutely necessary. The surgery was preformed with the upmost care, and the recovery process was relatively easy. Dr. McLain’s medical staff is wonderful and goes above and beyond to coordinate services and to accommodate the patient. I highly recommend Dr. McLain for anyone seeking high quality medical care.

Excellent Doctor
I saw Dr. McLain for a second opinion after having been seen by several orthopedic surgeons in the greater Akron & Cleveland areas for herniated cervical disk treatment. Dr. McLain is very professional and has a great personality. He recommended a one level disk replacement. He and his surgical team of nurses and doctors are amazing! If you have a similar problem, I would strongly recommend a consultation with Dr. McLain before you follow other opinions and make a life changing decision. Sincerely  Albert A.

I was suffering from nerve and spinal cord compression. Dr. McLain performed a 2 tier disc replacement C5-6 & C6-7 in July 2021. Upon waking up the pain and numbness was gone. I’m 3 weeks out and the muscle spasms and severe headaches have not returned. Dr. McLain is an excellent surgeon. He thoroughly explained my condition and gave me options. Surgery and recovery went exactly as he said. This is a doctor you can trust. St. Vincent hospital is a wonderful facility. I had a team of nurses that followed me from pre-surgery to discharge. Dr. McLain’s staff are true professionals. I was able to get an appointment next day for my initial exam. Dr. McLain’s Admin Assistant, Frank handled insurance approval, pre-admission testing, answered my questions as I thought of them and calmed my nerves before surgery. Dr. McLain gave me a second chance at a life without pain.

I had an injury that after years of abuse resulted in limited mobility and a great deal of pain. I did not want to go the pain management route and I did not want a fusion. Dr McLain was recommended by another doc. He and his staff are amazing. They diagnosed me, offered a solution and I’m nearly as good as new! He performed a C3/4 disc replacement and I have no pain and mobility is restored. I highly recommend him!

After getting a diagnosis of cervical myelopathy I came to Dr McLain for a second opinion. His exam was more thorough and I knew I wanted him for my doctor. My operation was at St Vincent Charity in Cleveland and I found out it has a well respected spine/ortho center. The surgery was a combined anterior/posterior cervical fusion. I was inpatient for two nights. His medical assistant thankfully worked out all the details and insurance. From Dr McLain and his surgery staff to the nurses on the 8th floor to the food service workers-all were sharp and compassionate. The numbness in my hands was gone as soon as I woke up and the neck and shoulder pain are gone now too. Way glad I found the courage to get it done. Dr McLain is smart and experienced and I’m fortunate to have found him. I think he’s the best in his field.

In August I developed sudden severe debilitating neck & arm pain. It was diagnosed as a herniated disc (C6-C7). I did not feel comfortable with the surgeon. My wife had heard of Dr. McLain through a friend. After calling his office they did everything they could to get me seen A.S.A.P. I felt comfortable with Dr. McClain from the start. He offered what he believed to be the best course of action for me, a cervical disc replacement which is not offered every where. When I woke up from surgery I was immediately out of pain. The slight surgical discomfort was gone within 3 days & I was back to work in a month (probably could have returned sooner). I can not express my gratitude enough for Dr. McLain & his Staff for restoring my quality of life.

Dr McLain did a three level fusion on me in August to stabilize my spine and decompress nerves. He made me feel very comfortable with this procedure and was honest in telling me it would be a long recovery. I am 10 weeks out...doing great! He is the master at what he does. I wouldn't let anyone else touch my spine. I trust him and felt safe in his care. He is a kind caring doctor. Thank you Dr. McLain!

I have had two visits with Dr. McClain both very bad I find that he is unable to understand an xray or an MRI . He also does not read the entire report and jumps to the wrong conclusions. I would never let him do surgery on me.

I had a bulging disc at c6 c7 with continuous pain in my right arm. I chose the disc replacement with Dr McLain and the entire experience was AMAZING. Not only am I pain free and functioning normally but the lack of post surgery pain was phenomenal. Within 6 hours of surgery I was taking only acetaminophen for the pain. I will do it again if the need arises. Thank you!

I was in constant pain for over a year from having a massive herniated disk in my lower back. Dr. McLain was very thorough, nice, and I felt like I was in good hands. This was my first surgery and it went amazingly. I had all of the information I needed before surgery. After surgery Dr. McLain was a great help with post-surgery treatment and how I can rebuild strength. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking to get back surgery. I am glad to say that I am free of pain and back to doing what I love. Thanks Dr. McLain!

What more can I say? Dr. Mclain fixed my neck. I couldn't find a surgeon I was comfortable with in the Columbus area, and ended up finding Dr. Mclain in Cleveland. I was in fairly severe pain with muscle weakness and numbness in my hand. Surgery was an absolute breeze and I woke up with little to none of the often complained about issues people have after disc replacement surgery. I had a sore throat for a few days but was off all narcotic pain relief by day 3. Dr. Mclain is a skilled surgeon with a tremendous amount of experience and confidence. I'd send anyone to him. Surgery aside, his assistant Frank worked out in what might be record time a major issue I had with my insurance company that threatened to delay my surgery. Hopefully this was my first and only spine surgery. If it isn't, I'll go back to Dr. Mclain.

After suffering over 10 yrs with spinal stenosis and arthritis in my lower back and going thru therapy, shots and ablations that eventually stopped working, I finally opted for surgery. By this time I couldn’t walk anywhere without pain, even sitting and sleeping were painful some days. Dr McLain was confident he could improve my quality of life. Now almost 6wks after surgery I am improving every day, getting around better and am pain free. Thank you so much!

Amazing!!! I am so fortunate to have found Dr. McLain. As a full time professional firefighter at one of the areas larger departments, I was looking at a career ending injury. 6 months later and one artificial disc replace my surgery I was back doing what I love. I highly recommend Dr. McLain. He will spend time with you discussing injuries and treatment, unlike other facilities that allot 5 minutes per patient. I always felt well informed and that I was part of the decision making process during my treatment. Kudos to his whole staff as well, what a wonderful group of people. So easy to reach and would always work with my schedule and sometimes odd request placed upon me by my city employer.
