Awful
Telehealth
I do not recommend this doctor for anyone in a crisis. She is not understanding. She laughs at you and is not sympathetic at all. Awful. Shoves meds down people’s throat and then says that there is no way you could ever have any kind of reaction from the psych med she placed you on. Do not recommend. I tell others to stay away from her. Terrible.

I would like to first thank Dr. Coker for being able to manage the care of our young adult son- he is building his life back to a more steady and reasonable state. She has taken the time to listen to his concerns make great suggestions for talk therapy, medication and academic support. I highly recommend her for the treatment of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. We are very grateful to see signs that our son is showing improvement and he is working very hard to make things better - but she is ultimately responsible for getting him to that road and assisting to keep him on the right path. She is extremely wise with her advice and cares about her patient.

Worst Doctor I have Ever Seen
She was rude, cold, dismissive. I was in a crisis and she made things worst. NOT what you want in a psychiatrist. PLEASE see a different doctor unless you want to be made to feel even worst than you already feel. I have no idea how she is still in practice.

Empathetic, Supportive, Great Listener & Kind
I’ve been seeing Dr. Coker for a few years now, and the biggest thing I can say is she’s consistent! She ALWAYS has been empathetic, a great listener, kind, and a problem solver, all while continuing to allow me to be a part of my treatment plan, which is important! She’s extremely easy to talk with, which allows me the opportunity to be completely honest and transparent w/ her. I wasn’t feeling my best mentally/ emotionally during my recent appt, however I left her office feeling more hopeful and positive after she tweaked my medication, and offered words of encouragement. She didn’t rush me at all. She listened to all my issues & concerns, and addressed them all. If I have a crisis between my scheduled appt, she will do her best to work me into her schedule. She’s been extremely helpful during my highs & lows; she’s consistent! She genuinely cares about my overall wellbeing. She encourages me to reach out when needed. Dr. Coker truly is one of the best psychiatrists in Charleston!

Trust the reviews that describe her as "cold", "rude", and "unsympathetic". I have seen her for years for medication management and after the last several appointments, I have finally had enough of being treated the way she treats me. It's unprofessional and unacceptable. Find a psychiatrist who cares about people.

Terrible. She was cold, dismissive, rude. I was in a bad place mentally when I went in and left in an even worse place mentally. I would not recommend her to anyone. It was one of the worst experiences of my entire life.

I had a great experience with Dr. Coker. She was very thorough, listened to my concerns, encouraged me and talked me through a few possible treatment plans. I felt like she was very professional but at the same time she tried to be relatable and warm. I had to do a telehealth visit b/c of the COVID pandemic, but she made it very comfortable and was easy to talk to. Her office is very responsive and I was very impressed. Thank you Dr. Coker for your help!

Dr. Coker was professional in that she was polite and thorough but also in the sense of being walled off, what I call, "unreachable as a person." She was aloof to me but, as I will explain, warm and personable to others (of her own standing) I gave permission for her to call another provider of mine but then she sent me from the room to do it. Since it was not a case of being unable to reach the contact, it had the definite feel of her believing that I was unable to participate in my own treatment AND somehow, should not be privy to treatment discussions about me. They talked while I waited outside the door feeling absolutely disrespected as a human being. Sadly, this is so common in that profession, this patronizing view. To add insult to injury, I heard raucous laughter from her side as they hung up. She opened the door wiping off the smile, going stone again. It'd be telling if the response is simply to ensure the clients can hear nothing. 1 star was required to submit review.

I think some of these bad reviews are confusing the roles of a psychiatrist and a talk therapist. I really liked Dr. Coker; she's direct and concise, listened to my concerns and gave me a few options for treatment. I felt comfortable and that she's a very competent doctor.

I have been seeing Dr. Coker for 2.5 yrs. I began seeing her for med management and was in a good spot. She is professional and knowledgeable but her empathy is very low on the warmth scale which works if the patient is in a maintenance level of care. I had an experience with her today in which her scolding and defensive manner towards me sent me over my emotional threshold. I was having chemical imbalance issues due to recently being weened off of my meds. I was grateful when I called office and they worked me into her schedule due to symptoms I was having from med withdrawal. I was in a crisis mode. After our session I left her office in a full blown anxiety attack unable to drive myself home. I understand I was not in a good place hence the emergency appointment but one should not leave a session with a psychiatrist thrown into a near suicidal frame of mind. I will not be able to continue services with Dr. Coker. This should not have happened like it did.

Not good. I understand she is a psychiatrist not a therapist but if you are going to deal with people in the mental health field at least appear empathetic. She was very dismissive about my sons concerns. Interrupted repeatedly instead of listening. Will not be going back.
