Dr. Stephen Kay, MD

Old school and gives absolutely real advice and care. Dr. Kay reconstructed my shoulder and was so great through every step of the process. I can't recommend Dr. Kay enough.

I had torn a shoulder muscle due to overzealous push ups; my doctor referred me to Dr. Kay. I was impressed with his experience, calm demeanor and honesty. He said that I could undergo surgery to repair it, but then I'd have to do six months of physical therapy. He recommended instead that I perform some gentle exercises daily ( he gave me a handout detailing the exercises) and to follow up with him in three months. Just as he predicted, three months later, my shoulder had healed on its own, I was no longer in pain, and I had regained full range of motion. He could have recommended surgery and made money off my pain but he's a true adherent of the Hippocratic Oath. Highly recommend this very ethical doctor.

When I went to see Dr. Kay I was in so much pain I could barely walk. I was only 42 years old and been suffering from escalating back pain since my mid- twenties. It was clear that back surgery was becoming inevitable. My Dad had already been through three back surgeries and seeing his results terrified me. I wanted to avoid surgery at all costs but was afraid it was too late. Dr Kay believed there was a surgical avoidance track and recommnended a radical course of physical therapy that I strictly adhered to three times a week for a year. I am now in my late 50s and I can honestly say my back rarely ever even comes to mind and I haven't had any significant pain in years. If I feel something isn't right I have all the exercises and relaxation techniques from that transformative year. He offered hope and an alternative and he was right.

Referred to him because I was having unknown reaction of extreme pain 3 months post medial knee replacement. I was seeking a second opinion as to why I was experiencing so much pain. After making out 14 pages of office forms and waiting in his reception area in a wheelchair, I finally met Dr. Kay. He spent all of 2 minutes with me and told me to return to my original surgeon for their treatment. He did not want to treat another doctors patient. The reason I was in his office was my surgeon apparently was not focused on maybe there was an infection. So with no further opinion, request for blood work, etc, he ended the appointment and walked out of the room. His professional treatment was non-existent, and then he had the audacity to bill the insurance company for a $270 office visit. 3 days later I ended up in the hospital and had to have my knee opened up and washed out with antibiotics and was then placed on a pick line for 6 weeks following. This doctor does not care.

I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Kay for his diagnosis and advice. One of the most impressive medical professionals I've ever encountered.
