Great listener. Asked good questions.
Dr.Chao had never met us before, so explained what she learned from my husband's records, and then asked him to elaborate. She listened well as he explained his insights and his hopes and expectations. We discussed care just completed, medication changes, rehab opportunities. She gave him lots of hope , explained the reasons for medication changes, encouraged him to take his exercise routine to the next level, so long as he was not experiencing discomfort. He felt informed and encouraged. Our daughter, a nurse practitioner who accompanied us, agreed that Dr. Chao was going to be a good health care provider for her Dad.

Dismissive
I found that she didn't listen and tried to redirect my answers to her questions of what she thought my answers should be (which also appeared inaccurately in my chart), and didn't follow up with appropriate tests (which I had to wait to leave Kaiser to get). I was about 35 pounds overweight and she kept repeating to "exercise" with no discussion of why (my dad's cardiologist explained to him after his heart attack how walking affected his cardiac health), so it just felt like fat shaming. She didn't answer general questions about my labs and I had to follow up with a PCP who was able to answer my questions in a matter of minutes. Dismissive.

Did not answer my questions or answer them directly. Felt judged and not taken seriously. Had to follow up with another doctor to get basic questions answered.
