Poor communication and management
Dr. Dana is an excellent physician by all accounts and his expertise is certainly in research. He lacks the ability to communicate well with patients and answer their questions. He will certainly tell you what to do to resolve your ailments but he never explains why the treatment is necessary, what to expect from the treatment or what the side-effects might be. When questioned about why a treatment is necessary or what it will do he can't explain it in layman's terms so that the patience can understand. He seems more interested in talking to his fellowship doctors than he is talking to the patient. The clinic is poorly managed. appointment started 25-minutes late. The technician who did the pre-tests before seeing the doctor was non-responsive and acted like a robot. She performed three totally unnecessary tests even when I asked her not to perform the tests. This is what drives up health care costs! Long waits between seeing the technician, then the fellowship doctor, then Dr. Dana.

SPECTACULAR
Dr. Dana saved my husbands vision. He had a Arterial Occlusion in one eye and a chemical burn in the other. Dr. Azar preformed a corneal transplant on the burned eye, 10 or more years later it failed, Dr. Dana had moved to Chicago. Dr. Dana performed a second corneal transplant and so far it has been a total success. We visit Dr. Dana multiple times a year and have nothing to say except total PRAISE for his work, his manners and his politeness. He will tell you the TRUTH, if you want to hear a lie to make you feel better, go elsewhere. If you want RESULTS, Dr. Dana is who you want. He has always been personable with us, chats about our drive, where we live, etc. He is a busy professional and his appointments are scheduled back to back, but we've NEVER felt rushed or pushed out, EVER. Dr. Dana is a medical artist and a perfect one. Don't go anywhere else, if you value your vision.

Dr. Dana is detailed, professional, and kind.
There is a delay with seeing Dr. Dana. I am first seen by his medical staff for the basic portion of the exam. Such as the eye chart, the lubrication in my eyes, eye pressure, etc. My main problem is dry eye from chemo & raditation. I've been on auto-drops for years. There may be a delay, but I wouldn't change anything. Dr. Dana is worth the wait.

Excellent and caring doctor
Dr. Dana relieved me from a very painful eye problem without side effects so far and thus enabled me to return to my normal life and activities instead of just dealing with the pain. I am thankful to him for every day of my now normal life and I feel lucky to be able to see him. The Fellows working with him and his Technicians are also capable and caring people. I hope they all do well and stay safe .

Dr. Dana was great, he remembered me from about 8 months ago. He asked how my kids were doing on top of being professional and knowledgeable about my situation. Wish more providers were like him.

This doctor is an academic by choice & a practicing physician by default, something he (& his team members) will be quick to remind to you. From what I’ve read, Dr. Dana is a very accomplished, awarded & recognized figure in the ophthalmologic world... but if you’re interested in gaining anything from him, I’d advise you Google one of his (many) publications, as that’s where his attention & concern both begin & end. He brings zero interest, concern or care to the doctors office. I’ve had numerous appts where the only time he’s even looked me in the eyes was to examine them through the microscope. It’s not unusual that he enter an appt. w/o even acknowledging my presence verbally, continuing to speak “about” me (in the 3rd person) to his fellows, as if I’m not sitting right there, his appearances never lasting over5-6 minutes. God forbid you ever need to contact his team, as you’ll likely just be met with a reminder from Kathy, his secretary, of how very important & respected he is.

Dr. Dana changed my life... Several years ago I had major eye surgery and my eye surface didn't heal properly and was scarred. It was always red and very uncomfortable. Dr. Dana performed an amniotic stem cell transplant of conjunctiva and literally regrew the white of my eye. Ever since that time I see him annually and am always grateful for his expertise.

I am so fortunate to have Dr. Reza Dana as my doctor. Dr. Dana is kind, caring, sympathetic and professional. My illness has had me facing some pretty dark days. Having Dr. Dana and his team by my side is definitely what got me through them. Dr. Dana decided I needed a corneal transplant due to a serious infection. This news shocked and frightened me. I was treated with honesty, dignity and respect. I thank Dr. Dana and his team for getting me so far so quickly!! Sincerely, Diane Bilis

He had no idea what was causing my sons ulcers, blowing off any questions we had, he got angry stating how many publications he's written, how highly regarded he was, that no one knows everything. His ego was so effected by his lack of knowledge it was shocking. This was the worse experience I've ever had, especially being that my son was there, making his ongoing eye problems seem like a lost cause. I have no idea how this man can still be practicing. Looks good on paper but horrible dr.

I had a very rare case of amoebic infection that, in the end, could only be handled with surgery. He performed my cornea transplant and I have not had any complications since. I felt I was in the very best of care under Dr. Dana. Every doctor who has examined my eye since has commented on how well it was done.
